Designed by Michael Boucquillon and Donia Maaoui, taking inspiration from the trees that surround their house in Lucca, the Barkroll Paper Towel Holder from Alessi is a unique and sculptural design ready to make an impression on any tabletop. Crafted using a manufacturing process whereby the steel sheet is cut and laser perforated, and subsequently shaped with a series of mechanical processes, then welded, this paper towel dispenser recalls the bark of a tree while the perforated pattern forms the knots in the wood grain. The result is a poetic yet functional object which, as its designers state, each time a sheet is torn off reminds the user that paper is made from trees.
