Alvar Aalto (1898-1976), one of the founders of Artek, was born in Kuortane, Finland. He is recognized today as one of the great masters of modern architecture. He began designing furnishings as a natural and important extension of his architectural thinking. His contribution to furniture design was among his foremost achievements in its own right, and it sowed the seed from which many of his architectural ideas sprang forth. Alvar Aalto's furniture and lighting pieces form the basis of the Artek range. The A110 Pendant Lamp is one of Aalto's designs. The lamp's beauty is based on its shape which is extremely simple and unique at the same time. The lamp is formed by two cylinders, one inside the other, and the light is reflected upwards. The pendant has a perforated steel ring through which the light is diffused, reflecting downward.
A110 provides direct illumination and can work well for task lighting over counter tops. Use alone or create visual impact with several A110 pendants.
